Vegan Restaurant Week 2018- Where We’ve Tried

Vegan Restaurant Week is in full swing so we thought we’d share some of the photos of the food we’re tried at some of the restaurants participating in this special event. Hopefully this will inspire you to get booking and try out the innovative plant-based food we have here in the North East while its on special offer. For more information about those involved follow the link here.

Ury, Newcastle Quayside

Offering a four course menu for just £15, we headed for Ury to try out Masala Dosa, Medhu Vadai and Vazhuthanangha Curry. Aubergines are the basis of this curry, with a sauce made with cashew nuts and coconut milk. It was so delicious that I will definitely be ordering it again!

Head of Steam, Quayside

2 courses for £10 are on offer at Head of Steam Quayside, including Warm Cherry Pie and ice cream. We loved the pasta dish for main course, too.

Grumpy Panda, Gateshead

Grumpy Panda has always been a favourite of ours and we thought the special sharing platter for VRW was a great idea. With fake meats, Cauliflower Wings, BBQ fries and other sides this is going to be popular. £18 for 2 with drinks included.

Wildflower @ Kommunity, Newcastle City Centre

Vegan scallops, Beetroot burgers and Lemon Drizzle Cake feature as part of the Vegan Restaurant Week special menu that Wildflower are serving at Kommunity. The ‘bacon’ has to be tried to believe and the plates are beautifully presented. 3 courses are just £8 at this city centre pop up.

Dosa Kitchen, Jesmond

For just £13.99 per person Dosa Kitchen have put together a special platter (including one of their famous dosa pancakes, not pictured) of their most popular vegan dishes for the event. A great way to sample what this new restaurant has to offer. You can read our review of its opening night here.

The Central Bar, Gateshead

Cheese & Onion Bruschetta

Mushroom Pate

Peppered ‘Steak’ Pie

Launching an extensive vegan menu especially for the week, The Central Bar has always been one of our favourite boozers in Gateshead.

Retired Shepherd’s Pie

With hearty classics like Pie & Mash and desserts like doughnuts, it is one you must visit if you want to see how ‘normal’ vegan food can be. Definitely no salad here! 2 courses are £10.50 or 3 for £12.50. Definitely go with an appetite 🙂

Fell’s Kitchen, Gateshead

Offering 2 courses for £10 or 3 for £12, Fell’s Kitchen have exciting veganised dishes like Eton Mess and Walnut Pate on offer during Vegan Restaurant Week. We’ve already been told that the restaurant have noticed new faces visiting during the campaign, which is great news.

Parichat at Sohe, Jesmond

Sohe are offering 2 vegan courses for just £10 and we were keen to give it a try. We were spoilt for choice, with quite a few options available for starters, mains and desserts. We will be writing a more comprehensive review of our visit in due course, but for now you can salivate over some of the photos instead.

Thanks for reading,
