The Nest, Low Fell – Visiting with Dinky

Finding things to amuse a rambunctious toddler is a difficult task and there are only so many times I can visit Giants Den before I go out of my mind! Hearing that community hub/cafe The Nest was running a group making Fathers Day presents on a windy Monday afternoon I decided to take Dinky along to sort out two proverbial birds with one stone.

I was pleased to find that there were vegan brownies on the go that afternoon, which certainly softened the blow of leaving the house. The Nest have dairy free plant milks available at all times and will rustle up food options for those who have dietary requirements like sarnies and jacket potatoes, meaning it is a nice place to pop to if you’re local like me.

Pre-vegan I used to love their luxury hot chocolate!

The cake situation isn’t always so forthcoming but I think it is getting better with increased demand.

The cafe was very busy as it was lunchtime and I struggled to find a table. I allowed Dinky to have a play in the area set aside with toys suitable for babies and toddlers before heading upstairs to where events and classes are held in the venue.

Dinky helped out with the chocolate brownie, which had slightly sour blueberries added to the rich mixture. She enjoyed having a play around until the room was set up for hand and feet printing. These words would normally strike terror into my heart because of the mess but I didn’t have to worry about the clean up afterwards 🙂

It was a good mix of ages and it was nice to chat to other mums while the toddlers, well, toddled! We left before the class had ended as I’d only parked the car for two hours but felt Dinky was getting quite fractious anyway. I was offered a complimentary tea or coffee while we sat and compared notes on motherhood but had a soft drink from my earlier time in the cafe.

The group event was just £2.50 and Dinky came away with a mini-canvas and card for her Daddy. I thought this was very reasonable compared to some of the arty groups we’ve historically participated in.

I’m thinking about signing up for other activities on my days off from work like Dance with Peppa, Dinky’s favourite tv character. For those who want some Mummy time there are also yoga sessions on offer. See photo below for more info or check out The Nest’s website (click on link earlier in the post).
