Tutti Frutti, Whitburn

I was tipped off about Tutti Frutti, an ice cream parlour in Whitburn, by a colleague. They’re a great bunch, always giving me suggestions for the blog. Located not far from Souter Lighthouse, the kitsch style of the website made me desperately want to visit. After the success of my Lickety Split post I knew you guys loved ice cream as much as me!
I took the opportunity to invite fellow blogger All About Eats along for us to meet in real life. She’s also a big fan of desserts, and thoughtfully brought along some homemade Blondies for me when we met at the store.
The quirky interior was fab, and there are so many sundaes to choose from. Eats chose ‘Sweet Nothins’ – Bubblegum and Strawberry ice cream, popping candy and jelly babies, topped with whipped cream and a cherry. I opted for the Be-Bop-A-Lula – Toffee Fudge and Banoffee Ice Cream, mixed with chopped banana and chunks of digestive biscuits. Low fat it ain’t! The sundaes were £4.45 each, and great value for money.
The ice cream was of a high standard, and nothing was scrimped on. Eats ordered a Hot Chocolate with cream and marshmallows, which came with a mini ice cream cone on the side. She later had a coffee and gave me the ‘chaser’ so I could try the Bubblegum ice cream she’d had in her sundae, which was so sweet of her! I was really impressed by their attention to detail. They also do a delicious range of milkshakes, and I know Jnr will love it as they do an Oreo version.
Tutti Frutti serve Beckleberry’s and Mark Toney’s ice cream, who are local producers. I like it when I see support for other local independents.
The cafe was busy over lunchtime as they have special offers to attract the locals in, and it was then quiet until school finished. They have a savoury food menu, as well as cakes on offer. It isn’t all ice cream! It seems like a popular spot for the kids to get an ice cream, and I’m envious they have such a gem on their doorstep. It’s open until 5pm every day, and would be a great place to visit on a Sunday afternoon. Eats and I sat for 3 hours chatting, and I couldn’t have picked a better venue for our first ‘tweet-up’!
Thanks for reading,

It was really lovely to meet you too!

Tutti Frutti was an adorable venue- totally loved it! You’re right, it’s great to find a local place supporting local producers like Beckleberrys.

Looking forward to the next one!

Yup, we have to find another suitably awesome venue for ‘date’ number two 🙂

I say it’s your choice next time, and you can drag me over your side of the Tyne xx
