Top Pancakes in the Toon
Okay, the title of the blog is slightly misleading, but we’ve done a nifty round-up of the fab places in the North East you can get pancakes from on Shrove Tuesday.. or any other time you have a craving for their syrupy goodness. Enjoy!
Koochie Culture, Jesmond
Sweet or savoury, Koochie Culture’s pancakes will definitely sate your desire for pancakes. This creperie and coffee house was a bit of a hidden gem for me, and its breakfasts initially tempted me in to give it a try.
La Petite Creperie, Grainger Market
No post about Pancake Day would be complete without a mention of our favourite French crepe maker Julien! Vegan or otherwise, a stop by La Petite Creperie for a Biscoff buckwheat galette is essential if visiting the Grainger Market to stock up on supplies.
Monsieur Crepe, Heaton
Recently opened in Heaton, Monsieur Crepe was long a stalwart of the North East stalwarts (like recently reviewed Chucho’s) before branching out into its own establishment. Great pancakes stuffed generously with an assortment of fillings are the name of the game here.
The Wild Trapeze, Heaton
I will admit it’s been a while since we’ve visited Wild Trapeze, which is also located in Heaton. You can read about our breakfast here. We’re heard on the grapevine that their pancakes are fantastic, so they’ve made list 🙂
Long Play Café, Newcastle Quayside
The Teen is a big fan of Long Play’s fluffy pancakes topped with banana and Nutella, but you can choose something more savoury if you wish. You can read about one of our visits for breakfast here.
FlipnFast, Mobile (Location Varies)
You may have seen the FlipnFast van at a food festival, which is where we first encountered Anna and her lovely vegan-friendly crepes. Check out the Facebook page for further info.
The Ice Bar, Morpeth
With a selection of very naughty fillings, The Ice Bar in Morpeth is the perfect place to head to on Pancake Day if you have a sweet tooth.
The Pancake Café, Durham
With a selection of sweet and savoury fillings on offer, as well as the ability to veganise their batter, The Pancake Café is a must-visit if you are in the vicinity. You can read about our last trip here.
The Pancake Kitchen, Seaham Harbour
The Pancake Kitchen serves up a lot more than just pancakes, but they are very much the star of the show. With reasonable prices, friendly staff and glorious views, this is an absolute gem in the Harbour. Clean & Press, Jesmond
For those wanting to be healthy but still indulge on Pancake Day why not try out Clean & Press in Jesmond? With protein pancakes on offer for the gym bunnies, or banana based mixes that can be made vegan-friendly on request, we highly recommend Clean to anyone wanting to try something a bit different to the norm.
