Summer Food Markets

We have some great events to look forward to over the summer months in the North East, if you like food like we do! Here is a round up of some we’d recommend you visit. With a host of local producers attending, it’s great to #supportlocal.

Proper Food & Drink Festival

papaWith two dates still to go, there’s plenty of grub on offer at these popular events. Cramlington is hosting its first at the end of July and North Shields closing off the festival season August 20 -21st (my birthday!), Proper Food Fest has proved just as popular this year as last. Free to attend, let’s hope for some for good weather! Read about our visit to Whitley Bay here for a taster of what to expect.

Whickham Food & Craft Festival

Held in Whickham’s beautiful Chase Park, this event on the 23rd and 24th July has over 40 artisan food, drinks and craft stalls attending. With children’s entertainment and live bands scheduled to play over the course of the weekend, we popped by last year and were impressed so many people visited. The organisers will be announcing attendees over the upcoming weeks, so keep an eye out on Twitter for more info.

The Staiths Food Market

greenHaving visited the inaugural Staiths Food Market (see post here), we were pleased to see so many people from the residential estate and beyond supported this fledgling event. July’s looks set to be even bigger, with Canny Food favourite Green Guerrilla serving up vegetarian and vegan burgers and Deli Churros selling sweet treats. If you fancy being healthy, the lovely Wheatberry will be on hand with some scrumptious salads, while Le Mini Macaron and Simply Cheesecake will be there to provide balance with their decadent desserts. We can’t wait until the 9th!

Ryton Local Produce Market

northThe Ryton Local Produce Market was created with both the customer and the trader in mind. Eager to bring fresh produce to the area, a selection of the finest purveyors of produce have been eagerly sought for the event. To be held on the last Saturday of the month, which in July is the 30th, it will run between 10am and 1pm.

Green Beans Market, Whitley Bay

The first Green Beans Market was held on the 26th June within Whitley Bay Metro Station. It was a huge success, and July’s should be just as popular. Focusing on food, growing and creative upcycling, the event features stall from local producers, as well as food grown at local allotments. We will definitely be popping along to support this event next time round.

NEVFEST, Newcastle Arena

imageLast, but by no means least, is the North East Vegan Festival. Held at the Metro Radio Arena on Sunday 10th July, you can read about our visit to the Sunderland event last year here. With so many food stalls to amble round selling delicious vegan foods from around the country, you will be spoilt for choice. Merging with EcofestUK means that the event will be bigger than ever, with electric car brands exhibiting alongside craft stalls and live music playing. Not to be missed!

Thanks for reading,

Pip x

I’d be interested in attending the EcoFest but we are camping that weekend – wonder if we can squeeze a trip in on our journey home?

I’m taking the kids to Cramlington real food fest as I can actually walk there. Yeah!

It’s on until 5, so hopefully you can. The kids will love the vegan hot dogs & you’d be surprised how many recognisable street food attendees will be there.
