After wowing people with their takeaway service, Karma Kitchen has now found a permanent home in the Bigg Market. Taking over from Taj Palace, the team are serving up a menu which also includes vegan desserts. We visited during the opening week (20th Nov) to sample a special set menu operating for £20 per person.
We hadn’t realised there would be so much food and from the moment starters arrived I’d realised I’d bitten off more than I could chew, quite literally. I had, rather foolishly, started with a Mango Lassi which was filling in itself.
Our first course consisted of 4 small starters like Pakora and Onion Bhaji. I found them quite spicy and even the Teen, who is a fan of spicy food, agreed.
For main course we were presented with a platter of 4 small curries, rice and roti. Considering I was flagging at starters you can imagine how I felt! My favourite was the Tikka, while Gavin liked the Chickpea Curry. Noticing our struggle we were told we could take home a doggy bag which meant lunch the following day was sorted.
Having a selection of dishes in this manner meant we got to try a variety of curries rather than just the one, which was nice. I often stick with what I know rather than being adventurous so this gave me the opportunity to try out different flavours.
We had a choice of desserts and I opted for a Salted Caramel Cupcake, as did the Teen. Gavin choose Cinnamon Doughnut Holes, although he ended up not eating them because the Teen snaffled them once we’d gotten home!
We had a veritable feast while visiting Karma Kitchen Cafe and I’d definitely recommend a visit. This wholly vegan restaurant proves being plant based doesn’t mean a compromise on flavour and it was great to see a selection of desserts that didn’t include sorbet or fruit. We wish Meera and the team continued success.
