I pride myself on knowing about new places in Newcastle, but even I failed to notice new cafe Les Petits Choux opening a few weeks ago in the Toon. It was only when they started to follow me on Twitter that I became aware of their presence, and upon viewing the delicious cream cakes on their website I put it on my immediate list of places to visit.
Located not far from my beloved SJP and the fantastic Trent House, Les Petit Choux also sits opposite one of the entrances for Leazes Park. I feel it will become the destination for many lazy weekend coffees and brunches. There’s no mention of Afternoon Teas on the website or that I could see in the cafe, but I’d imagine it’s something they may offer in the future if they don’t already. There aren’t many places in the city centre that have the ambiance to carry an authentic cream tea experience other than the hotels, but I think this little cafe does. The staff are lovely and friendly, and it definitely has a ‘family’ feel to it.
Unable to do anything other than a grab and go on the cream cakes, I took the time to take some photos of the interior while they boxed up my Ferrero Rocher Choux Bun and Eclairs. It has been thoughtfully decorated, and it’s easy to forget you’re in the city with the park opposite. As everything is available to take away I can imagine many people taking the opportunity to grab something at Les Petit Choux before heading into the park on a sunny day.
Alongside the Choux Bun I chose Salted Caramel and Raspberry and White Chocolate Eclairs, and a Caramel Shortcake. All of these goodies totalled £8, which is excellent value for money for something lovingly handmade. The Salted Caramel was my favourite, although I didn’t take a picture as it got a little smooshed in the car on the way home. It was fantastic, even if it wasn’t pretty! The Ferrero Rocher Bun is something I’m anticipating seeing all over Instagram when everyone else discovers this delightful little cafe.
