No 32 – Jesmond welcomes new cafe to Acorn Road *Closed*

Light Bites

10 Apr

A new café opened its doors in Jesmond last week. No 32 has opened on bustling Acorn Road and is keen to champion locally sourced produce in the former home of Adrianos Deli. The menu features croissants and cold pressed juices from Northern Juice, salads and speciality coffee roasted by North Star Roastery.I popped along with the Teen for a quiet lunch sans Dinky as he broke up for the Easter Holidays. It’s not often we spend time together like this without our cute gooseberry so decided to make the most of it. On offer for me was a selection of their fresh salads (£7.50), while the Teen chose to try their Grilled Halloumi Sandwich (£4.50). I managed to convince him to try out a Latte, which is the first time he’s had a ‘proper coffee’. Coffee fiends will love this super potent blend.North Star Roast – who are based in Leeds – are providing the beans for No 32’s powerful cups of coffee, while locals Storm Tea are used for the brews. You can tell there’s been a huge amount of care and thought put in to all elements of the café and the owner feels a sense of pride at what they’ve accomplished. Karen chatted to us about the ethos behind No 32 and her hopes for it to become a hub within the local community. I have to be honest and say the vegan options were limited to just the salad, but there were quite a few vegetarian dishes on the menu. The Squashage Rolls sound great if you like goats cheese!

The Teen was happy with his sandwich, which was served on doorstop sized slices of bread. He even turned down cake afterwards, which was very surprising.

We definitely enjoyed our relaxed lunch at No 32 and would happily return. There were no vegan cakes on offer so we have a chat about local suppliers and I mentioned The Lily Tree Bakery and a few others to Karen. It would be great to be able to pop in for a cuppa and a sweet treat with the Teen again, and I’ll keep you all posted!

Thanks for reading,

Pip x

I had been meaning to pop into Adriano’s for a long time but never got round to it. Their loss is No. 32’s gain 🙂

Looks lovely! Lots of hard working people did everything they could to get it open on time. Such a pity they have not been paid in full for their work.

It’s a shame it didn’t stay open long.
