Light Bites

29 Sep

It has been a big week for vegan food news and it shows no signs of abating! Great news for foodies like us who love trying out all of these new options! Because there’s been so many new additions I thought I’d do a round up post of sorts to run through what’s available or coming soon. Let us know what you think if you’ve managed to hunt them down.

Pret – Nationwide

Joining their wide range of vegan savoury lunch options and the delicious Chocolate Cookie (which you can read a review of here) are these Almond Butter Bites from Pret.

Priced at £1.45 for 2 chocolates, they aren’t exactly cheap compared to the value for money the cookie offers.

As I’m not a fan of dark chocolate I didn’t think I’d like them but the almond butter’s salty nature counterbalances the slightly bitter chocolate. A handy snack to pop in your bag for when you need a chocolate pick-me-up.

Costa Coffee – Nationwide

Costa Coffee has introduced a new range of lunch items which are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. The Thai Red Curry Meal Pot (launching Thursday 4 October) is a fragrant, lower calorie choice for those who are looking for a lighter option and follow a vegan diet. We’re looking forward to giving it a try.

Also launched recently was this Chipotle Bean and Butternut Squash Wrap.

As well as savoury options, Costa’s vegan cookie seems to be doing well. The texture is more like cake than biscuit, in my opinion, but is more indulgent than the seedy sweet options the brand had selling previously. You can read about the cookie here.

Caffe Nero – Nationwide

Caffe Nero launched a vegan cheese toastie on the 26th Sept. It’s good!

Their Sundried Tomato and Pesto Tostati contains dairy free mozzarella, vegan pesto, salad leaves and a tomato mayonnaise on sundried tomato sourdough bread. For those of us growing tired of falafel and bean wraps this is a breath of fresh air.

Waitrose – Nationwide

I find vegan sandwich options very dull so was pleased to see Waitrose launch a dairy free version of a Ploughmans recently.

For me, this is a proper sandwich and really enjoyed it. The chutney used prevented it from being dry and the vegan cheese was creamy.

I wish I had a Waitrose closer to work for the days I need a lunch on the go.

Thanks for reading,

Pip x
