Proven Goods Co are a firm favourite with many and have long been a food market stalwart. I would often see the team at the Quayside Market on a Sunday or at the Kells Lane Food Market. What I wasn’t aware of until recently, however, was that Proven actually had vegan-friendly doughnuts. A casual scan of the content of this blog will unearth many posts dedicated to our quest for doughnuts, so this was music to our taste buds!
Following stints in Fenwick’s Food Hall Proven have now set up permanently in Hoults Yard, in a fancy little bakery-cum- coffee shop that will be featuring on many an Instagram account in the next few months. Mark my words. I ventured in with Gavin after an evening of vodka drinking down at By The River and was in need of something fattening and sweet. I was happy to see their fare clearly labelled and plant milk available for hot drinks. We chose oat milk hot chocolates to accompany our doughnuts.
The vegan doughnut was flavoured with orange, coconut and pistachio. It didn’t appear to be as fluffy as the non-vegan variety, something Gavin confirmed when he tried it compared to the Caramel Custard and Honeycomb beauty he ordered. They were priced at £2.50 each, while there are offers available for boxes to take away.
It’s worth mentioning that there is 1 hour free parking in front of the unit so you don’t have to worry about the car.
Given the out of the way location of Proven’s new bakery unit they were doing a swift trade while we were there. It was their first weekend opening too, which shows the independent’s popularity. I imagine once word gets out about this little coffee shop it will have queues out of the door.
We will definitely pop back, especially as I’ve heard there’s a Biscoff-glazed vegan doughnut they make on occasion. Not sure if it will match the lofty heights of Considerit’s delights but I’m game to give it a try. For blogging purposes, you understand. It’s a hard job but someone has to do it.
