The Best Sunday Lunches in the North East!

Sunday Lunches

17 Mar
Getting a Sunday lunch like your mum makes isn’t always guaranteed when it comes to dining out. My own mother used to make an awesome roast, and my own attempts aren’t too shabby either! I’m an expert at making Yorkie Puds, and there’s absolutely no room for frozen anything on the Lord’s day. If those veggies have been boiled within an inch of their lives, hang up your apron now!
Here are my recommendations for places to eat if you fancy a Sunday away from the stove. Apologies in advance if the gratuitous shots of beef, delicious gravy and crispy puds make you salivate. The weekend ain’t too far away, so get booking!
The Staith House, North Shields Fish Quay

I promise, I don’t have shares in The Staith House! I know I’ve visited a fair few times since it opened, and with good reason. This place is consistently awesome. If you haven’t tried it, you absolutely should.
There’s plenty of opportunity to walk the grub off in picturesque Tynemouth, and on a Sunday they often have live music. Tell them Pip sent you 🙂 A review of our first visit can be found here.
PTMY, High Bridge
Pleased to Meet You is an absolute star in terms of bars in Newcastle, in my opinion. Admittedly it gets a bit crowded on an evening, but I’ve not struggled on a Sunday lunchtime getting a table. Maybe everyone is sleeping off their gin hangovers. Love it.

Lady Grey’s, Shakespeare Street
Fancy food it ain’t, but if you’re looking for a decent meal in Newcastle City Centre you can do far worse than Lady Grey’s. The crackling is always good, and there’s Treacle Sponge if you have room for dessert.
Broad Chare
“Proper pub, proper food, proper beer”. That’s what the website says, and who am I to argue?! Great choice if you want to have a wander around the Quayside Market, too.

Black Horse, Beamish
A great choice to visit after a trip to Beamish Museum, which is precisely when we experienced our first roast there. I walked past the kitchen window, saw an amazing pile of Yorkie Puds and knew I was in for a treat!
Artisan, The Biscuit Factory
A full review of our recent visit to Artisan can be found on the site. Faultless.
Notable mentions go to Blackfriars Restaurant (Newcastle Eats has been here), Vallum Farm (Patchy Growth features a review) and The Earl of Pitt Street (my review can be found here).
Thanks for reading,
Pip x

Hey, cheers for the mention! Best Sunday lunch I ever had in Newcastle, or anywhere else for that matter, was Pan Haggerty's. Shame it closed down. By Christ, it was perfect.

I've said before that I love reading your blog! 🙂 I remember eating a potato & leek soup in there which was so good I asked for seconds! Sorely missed.
