Hot on the heels of the dairy free Cornetto release comes another contender for the ice cream crown to the freezer aisle. Swedish Glace was the first vegan frozen dessert option we tried and were immediately impressed with how creamy this alternative was. Finding their ice cream cone in the supermarket – Tesco in Kingston Park, for those who are local to me – was exciting, especially as there were two different flavours to try.
The Swedish Glace Vanilla Cone has the added bonus of a strawberry sauce centre. I found the cone a bit chewy at times compared to the Cornetto version, although I preferred this brand as there were no nutty sprinkles. I can’t be the only person who finds they stick in their teeth, right? The ice cream itself is creamy and smooth, and the slightly crisp chocolate shell marks it apart from his competitors.
The Caramel Toffee flavour has a caramel sauce swirl inside and, like the Cornetto, has the hidden ‘surprise’ of the chocolate in the base of the cone. These dairy free desserts will be a surprise to those who think vegans live on nothing but salads and tofu.
Retailing at £2.50 for the Vanilla and £3.89 for the Toffee (which I think is a big difference in price!) and available from supermarkets like Sainsbury’s and Tesco, it’s great to find another dairy free option in the freezer aisle for us.
