One of the biggest wins this year for us as a family was the launch of Naturli Vegan Spread. It may not seem like a big deal, but so many times dairy free alternatives are a compromise for certain members of the family. The Teen loves Lurpak thicked on bread and, now I’m vegan, I refuse to buy dairy products. Other suitable spreads like Flora and Vitalite weren’t to his taste and he would often complain. Naturli was the first vegan product he’d properly raved about, to the extent I would find the tubs depleted rather quickly. You can read our review here.
Fast forward a few months and the plant-based brand have also released a vegan block onto the market in selected Sainsbury’s stores. I believe the retailer has exclusivity on the range at present. The Vegan Block, alongside the spread, is 100% organic and palm oil free. This has delighted many who are concerned about the environmental impact of palm oil consumption on the environment. For those concerned about plastic the new block has less packaging than its sister product and due to its more solid nature is ideal for baking and use in cooking.
I tested it out on bread to see how well it spreads and it is usable in this capacity. It is best to leave it at room temperature if you’re wanting to use it on bread. The Vegan Block has been for sale in the UK since the 21st of November and retails at £2 for 200g (the spread is £1.80, in comparison). Having seen posts on Instagram and Twitter of scones and cakes baked using the new block I definitely feel inspired to give it a whirl over the festive season. I will continue to buy the Spread and, thanks to a long shelf life, think I will keep the block as a handy back-up.
We’re looking forward to seeing more Naturli products over the upcoming months. For those interested, we have also reviewed their Minced and Burgers here on the blog.
