Naturli’ are fast becoming one of my favourite vegan brands! Hot on the heels of their Minced and burger launch comes another new product line in Sainsbury’s stores. You may think another dairy free spread for your toast isn’t exactly a game changer but think again. Those who miss the salty punch of a good dairy butter will no doubt be converts to Naturli’s new Organic Vegan Spreadable.
One of my guilty pleasures was a freshly baked loaf slathered in ‘best butter’, as my Dad would call it. Something so simple evokes strong taste memories for me from my childhood and is something I missed becoming vegan. Dairy free spreads don’t always have the same creamy texture or saltiness that a slab of butter does. I settled on the Pure range as I felt it was the best value for money and the one that worked in recipes just as well as it did being used on toast.
I tried Nutcrafter Creamery’s Bettah than Buttah and was impressed but, at £4.50 for 120g, this was very much an indulgence and not something we could afford to use daily as a family of 4, despite how good it is.
Naturli’s Vegan Spreadable retails at £1.80 and is sold at present exclusively by Sainsbury’s. It can be found amongst the other spreads in the fridge aisle so keep your eyes peeled. The tub is 225g and the products are registered with The Vegan Society. It is also palm oil free.
Using a blend of rapeseed, coconut and shea oil, Naturli’ has the same smooth, rich texture as dairy spread but without the heaviness. Thankfully for someone who dislikes coconut there’s no whiff or taste of my nemesis. It has the good salty tang a lot of alternatives seem to be lacking and really worked well spread generously on warm bread. It is easy to spread, as its name suggests, even straight from the fridge.
I did a taste test with the Teen to see what he thought, being as opinionated as he is on vegan food. I used our normal spread, which he actually quite likes, and asked him which he preferred out of the two (see picture below; Naturli is on the right for comparison). I didn’t tell him which was the Naturli’ to make it fair. He chose this new organic brand over Pure and asked if it was really vegan. Another glowing endorsement for the Danish company! We will definitely be permanently switching over to this spread. You can read our thoughts on the meat substitutes here.
We’re looking forward to more product lines from the company being introduced as we’ve been impressed by their plant based alternatives thus far.
